Creating a Vintage License Plate is an easy, fun, and affordable project. This Vintage License Plate headboard is also an awesome way to display your collection.

While building this Vintage License Plate is not difficult, you need to pay attention to the small details for a professional look. This Vintage License Plate project should cost you about $100 depending on what materials you already have.

To Make a Vintage License Plate You Will Need:

Vintage License plates

MDF Sheet

Crown Molding (optional)

Primer

Paint

2 Large Picture Hooks

Wood Glue

2" Finishing Nails

Hammer

The first step is to measure your bed. You need to now how wide your bed is so that you can have your MDF cut to size.

Almost any home improvement store will cut wood and MDF; you just need to give them the measurements. Have the MDF cut to about 3 feet tall. You can decide how tall you want your own Vintage License Plate to be, but it will look best if the width is as wide as your bed.

While you are at the home improvement store have a piece of crown molding cut to the same width as your headboard. It will save you from having to cut it yourself later when you assemble your headboard.

Now, the first thing you need to do is prime the MDF and crown molding. Let these dry.

Once the primer has dried you can apply a coat of paint in any color you want. I like to paint this whole project just to make it look really professional.

Attach the crown molding to the top of the headboard with wood glue. Use 2 inch finishing nails to hold it in place while the glue is drying. If you are doing this step of the Vintage License Plate do it before your prime and paint, this way your headboard will be seamless.

Once the entire headboard has dried flip it over on a flat surface face side down. On each side of the headboard, about four inches in from the side, attach your picture hanging hooks. This is how you wall hang the custom headboard on the wall.

Now you are ready to start the instillation of your Vintage License Plate collection.

Takeaways
  • Drill your screws into the wall and hang your Vintage License Plate headboard from the hooks.
  • Keep repeating until you cover the entire headboard.
  • You can randomly place the vintage tin pieces, over lap them, or even space them out.

Now, use your tacks to attach them to the board.
