Every dog can feel the cold in the winter. All dogs need to have special care taken to keep them warm on the days that it is cold out. Long haired dogs have it a little better in cold weather then there short haired friends. Long haired dogs like Huskies like the cold weather to a certain extent but even they have a limit to how much cold they can take. All dogs need to have shelter in cold weather.

Short haired dogs really don't do well in cold weather. They prefer the hot summer days when they can lie out in the sun. In the winter any dog loves to sit in the sun and soak up the rays if they can. A short haired dog likes it even more. If you have a nice window that lets the sun in you may want to make a bed so your dog can lay in the sun. If you don't have a sunny window you may have to give your dog a doggy sweater.

Dog sweaters are great especially for short haired dogs. If your dog has to go outside in the winter and they have a hard time in the cold you may want to consider getting them a sweater for when they go outside. You have a coat when you go outside so why not give your dog a little sweater to go outside in. A young dog may fight the sweater for awhile but with some patience from you the dog will get used to the sweater. Put the sweater on your dog and take them for a walk on a leash. Usually after awhile the dog will be excited to be out for a walk and eventually forget they have the sweater on. You may have to repeat taking the dog for a walk a few days to get them used to wearing the sweater. A older dog usually feels the sweaters warmth and they like to wear it right away. Any dog can feel special with a sweater of there own to wear.

If your dog has problems with their feet in the cold you may want to get your dog some doggy booties. Dog booties usually take longer for a dog to get used to but it will be worth it if you take the time to help the dog get accustomed to their booties.

A short haired dog usually loves to have a blanket in the house that they can curl up under. The shorter the dog's hair is the more likely they will like a blanket of there own to lay under. A blanket can be very special to a dog. They love their own little blanket.
