The 2007 slew of special effect laden, trained monkey exploiting, oversexed wet t-shirt contest ads began shortly before kickoff in this year's Miami match up between Indianapolis and Chicago. The first quarter, filled with the biggest and best of the year's advertising offerings was almost overshadowed by the slippery sliding fumble fest on the field.

But the ads are never to be underestimated and this year proved to be a step up from last year's half hearted stable of monkey jokes. Fedex takes their delivery area from prehistoric times to the moon as their spaceship touches down to "The Final Countdown" and the fist bump is officially out but who stuck out the most this year with the right balance of clever and funny, and who merely threw more wet t-shirt contests our way?

The long awaited Kevin Federline commercial, the one floating around the internet for the last two weeks is still funny as he shows us what we've all been thinking - he wouldn't even make a good fast food employee. On the down side though, we're subjected to almost 20 seconds of his rap video.

Budweiser has always had their finger firmly planted on the pulse of the American public and the advertising arena, from Frogs and Lizards to "Wassup?!" they've managed to keep it funny and offer something new and refreshing each and every year. Part of that's the dozen or so ads they plop the big bucks down for, but if they didn't what would we talk about on Monday? This year is no exception. Their trademark young male audience throwing rocks at each others heads in a full contact game of Rock, Paper, Scissors led the pack. Carlos Mencia makes a spirited appearance teaching immigrants how to ask for a Bud Light in different cities, and an ax murderer woos his way into the back seat of a couple driving home with a case of Bud Light.

I fell asleep after working a graveyard shift. I didn't get to watch all of the superbowl and was dissapointed in myself for this especially since my husband held a football party and I was asleep on the couch in front of all of our guest. You did a great job writing this article and I look forward to reading more of your work.

The guys probably got paid scale (and I'm not sure what that is, but it's a sliding scale for the length of the spot), and they will surely be paid a fortune in royalties, because they get paid every time it gets shown, on every single station it gets shown on. And a spot like this will definitely get a LOT of play. Saaa-WEEET!

The careerbuilder.com commercials were funny!

I thought the Dorritos commercials were great especially the checkout girl. They were creative and simple! Simplicity is sometimes the best thing for advertising. I did like the commercial with the dog who's having a bad day and wants some attention and finally gets on the float with the hot girls. It was very cute and I felt so badly for him and then happy for him at the end. All and all they were all good commercials. I did take issue with the two men working on the car I thought it was homophobic and for an FCC that had problems with Janet's breast and covered up nipple I don't see the bible thumpers out this year for showing gay men on television, don't they consider that sexual deviancy? They're such idiots.

I think you summed up the commercials nicely, the game sometimes out shadowed the commercials. My favorites were the careerbuilder.com ones.

This was my favorite commercial.. EVER. I laughed so hard, my girlfriend thought I was weird for thinking it was funny though. I guess it's a guy thing... great article though.

I actually like the musical Chevy commercial. Chevy has been a part of the American culture for decades and I think showing the songs from the different eras that mention Chevy products was a good way of reminding people of the good feelings that American cars used to engender. Other than the Bud Light English as, it was my favorite.

I was just curious, I could care less about the homophobic part. I was just wondering how much they got paid, two actors who are not readily recognizable, common looking and such. Just curious, not commenting on any aspect of the ad.
