Every Dog likes to be comfortable and special. Have you ever bought your dog a new collar and put it on your dog only to see the smile on your dogs face? Some dogs are very proud of their collars. Or maybe you put a new collar on your dog and the dog wasn't happy about it? Dogs are very individual and some dogs like to wear a collar and some dogs don't. If a dog has a collar then they want it to be comfortable. Imagine what it would be like for you to have to wear a collar? And then try to buy a collar that might be comfortable for your dog.

The collar should be the right size for the dog. A small dog should have a small, thin, delicate collar. A large dog should have a thicker, stronger collar that is big. The size and strength of the collar should fit the size and strength of the dog. If you have a dog that works hard then a nice leather collar is best for comfort. A leather collar lets your dogs neck breath. A leather collar is really best for all dogs. Any collar can be pretty with studs but make sure that there are no sharp points that will bother your dog. All collars should fit your dog properly and you should put some thought into the collar you buy your dog.

A metal or collar made with chain can be uncomfortable. The metal can get cold in the winter and if the dog is in the sun the metal can get hot. A metal collar is not a good choice but some dogs pull when they walk on a leash so a metal collar might help them to stop pulling. You can use a choke collar to walk your dog and a regular collar when the dog is not being walked.

The collar on a dog should not be too tight. A tight collar can restrict air flow when the dog is breathing and a tight collar can make swallowing hard or impossible for a dog. On a large dog you should be able to fit two or three fingers easily into the collar when it is on the dog. On a small dog you can get by with two fingers fitting easily into the collar when the collar is on the dog. A dog with a tight collar is a very unhappy dog.

There are many pet shops that will allow you to bring your dog into the shop to try on collars. They will help you pick out the right collar for your dog. It is best to ask if it is ok to bring your dog into the pet shop with you before you do it.
