The emergency kit in your car can be a large coffee can with a lid. You can store all the things in the coffee can that you need in your emergency kit. The things you should put in your emergency kit are a candle or two, matches in a book or strike anywhere matches, a high energy candy bar, duct tape, toilet paper, a blanket, a shovel and road salt.
To make an emergency kit take a clean coffee can that has a lid that fits on the coffee can good. Put the candle, matches, candy bar, toilet paper and duct tape inside of the coffee can. Then put the coffee can in your car in a spot that you can reach easily in the event of an emergency. If you ever find yourself stuck in a spot where you are stranded you can light the candle with a match to keep the inside of the car above freezing. The coffee can, can be used as a water container that you can melt snow in over the candle for drinking water. You can eat the candy bar if you need some energy. The toilet paper and the duct tape may be invaluable at times.
The blanket, shovel and road salt can be put in your truck of the car. It is good to have the shovel in case you need to dig yourself out of a snow bank. The salt can be used if you need to get out of a slick spot and the blanket can be used if you need to cover up someone who has been in an accident. Road flares can be a very good thing to have in the event of an emergency at night.
A cell phone is a wonderful thing to have anytime. It can help you call for help or for help for anyone who doesn't have a cell phone.
