After being cooped up in your home for the long winter months, the first hint of spring is a welcomed change. It is natural to want to get rid of the winter doldrums and welcome spring into your home, but you don't have to call in a remodeling company or spend a fortune to brighten up a dull bedroom.

The centerpiece of any bedroom is the bed. To immediately brighten up the room, pull the heavy comforter off the bed and replace it with a lightweight quilt in bright or pastel colors. If cool nights are still a problem, a matching throw can be folded up and draped across the foot board for a flash of color and extra warmth when needed.

To let the glorious spring sunshine in, fold dark heavy drapes away and replace them with white or yellow sheer panels. They are easy to find and are an inexpensive way to brighten up a room. Mini-blinds can be found in most discount stores and are an affordable and easily installed way to provide privacy when needed.

To add a touch of spring to your walls without the expense or trouble of painting and wallpapering, find wallpaper remnants in spring shades and patterns at your local home improvement store. Use them to matte family photos of spring and summer outings and frame them to add color and light and a touch of whimsy to your room. Adding large framed mirrors can reflect light and make your room look larger and brighter.

If you have dark carpeting or hardwood floors in your room, a few brightly colored rag rugs can give your floor an instant lift. Replacing dark lampshades with white or floral shades can provide more light, even on the cloudiest spring days.

If the flowers in your area haven't fully bloomed, a fruity or spring scented candle can be placed on a candle warmer to bring the smell of spring into a bedroom that's still stuffy with winter air. For a final spring touch, visit your local nursery. Many outdoor flowers begin their lives in a pot. Placing it in your window until it is ready to transplant provides a welcome glimpse of the summer to come, and you have a wonderful plant for your summer yard.
