We pledge to our mate on our weddin' day to love, honor, and obey. We make an unsaid pledge to our children when they are conceived. We learn the concepts of this pledge from the examples our parents give us day by day as we grow. We are given examples of this when we attend school. The teachers, the administration folks, even the voters at levy time send us that message.

I recently was told a story that sent chills up my spine and gave new meanin' to these sacred words. The names are meaningless it's the story that has the deep meanin'. It's an example of the true meanin' of love honor and obey.

Pete and Judy were young and in love. They had dated fer many years waitin' fer the time to be right to be married. When that time came it was a picture perfect day. Bright sunshine filled the little chapel surroundin' each of their friends and family with an aura of happiness and joy. Judy was brought to the alter by her father. He was so proud of his "little girl" his chest was swollen.

Judy was dressed in a special dress handmade by her Mom and her Aunts. She carried her Grandma's delicate hand crocheted hanky tucked into her sleeve. Around her neck was a string of pearls her Great Grandpa had brought back from the Orient fer her Great Grandma many years ago. In her shoe was tucked a six pence her Dad had brought back from his time in Europe durrin' the second World War. She carried herself with an air of elegance that would become royalty.

Pete was watin' fer her at the alter. His Dad was his best man. They both wore dark suits and shirts handmade by his Mom. Tucked in his pocket was a letter from his Mom tellin him to behave like the man she knew he was. To love, Honor, and obey this woman hee was takin' fer his wife. More important to follow the example his Dad had given him when it came to love.
