Whether you were planning a romantic picnic for two or a entertaining day outdoors with your kids, indoor picnics are a fun option for those inevitable rainy days. They can make staying at home just as fun as going outside. Indoor picnics are very similar to outdoor ones, although you avoid the hassles of bugs and dirt. Follow these tips for a fun day indoors.

Just like regular picnics, indoor picnics should be done on the ground. Spread out a quilt or blanket on the floor and surround the area with an array of pillows. Try to have the whole perimeter of the blanket surrounded to make the hard ground softer, and for something to lean on. Pick a large area that can accommodate not only the people that will be sitting there, but places to set down food platters as well.

Food is the staple of a normal picnic, and the same goes for the indoor variety. Have fun with this. Cheese, fruit, and vegetable platters are great for munching. If sandwiches are involved, cut them up and arrange them on a plate so that it appears as a buffet. Chips and dip are another great addition to the indoor picnic. Because you won't have to deal with pesky bugs and animals, you won't need to worry about keeping the dip or other foods covered.

Don't forget the drinks. If your picnic is for your children, sparkling juice varieties of fake wine are fun beverages to add. Pour it into plastic wine cups to make the occasion more special. To add a little bit more pizzazz, adding pieces of fruit to the bottom of the cup can add a tasty surprise. For the more romantic adult indoor picnics, wine or champagne is a wise choice. Be sure to keep the glasses on a sturdy surface away from elbows and knees so that the juice or wine doesn't spill and stain the carpet.
