Often, in single parent homes with average incomes, the single parent may not be earning an income sufficient to afford health insurance through the employer and, because of this same lack of income, can not qualify for state funded health insurance programs as any income is deemed to disqualify many families. As a result, these middle income, single parents are left with the decision as to when, or if, a child needs care by a pediatrician as, without health insurance, many single parents are simply unable to afford the medical care so often required of their children.

For parents, using some simple interviewing techniques, when locating a pediatrician, will assist in finding the one that is best suited for your family's needs while ensuring your lack of health insurance does not impede your child's access to healthcare.
