You're thinking about withdrawing your child from school and homeschooling him. However, you can't get past the self-doubt clouding your mind. Although you've done the research and you believe homeschooling is the right educational method for your child, you just can't get past the worries plaguing you.Let's examine those concerns.
A tiny flame of uneasiness sparks to life in your belly and asks the question, "Is this really legal?" Homeschooling is legal. Depending upon where you live, you'll need to pass certain requirements to teach your child at home. Some states have more rigorous guidelines and laws than others. Check with your state's Department of Education to find out what the requirements are. A quick perusal using an Internet search engine will find lots of information on the legality of homeschooling in your area. Read the requirements and then do what you need to do to meet those requirements. Contact local homeschooling groups for support and information.
Another of your concerns deals with your ability to teach your child, so you ask, "Am I capable of teaching my child?" Perhaps you've decided that you don't have enough education. After all, you barely made it through high school so where do you get off thinking you can teach? Most states have regulations stating the educational requirement for a parent to homeschool their child. Often the minimum educational level a parent has to have is a high school diploma. If you graduated from high school, then usually you're good to go. (Again, check your state for the exact requirements you need.)
Even though you have your high school degree, you're still unsure. What about math? What about the "new" math? You haven't worked an algebra problem in ages. And forget about those awful word problems!
