A few years back I was employed by a homeowners insurance adjustment firm and saw what people with losses went through on a daily basis. Whenever a person suffers a loss to their home or personal property it is devastating to that family or individual. The homeowners insurance companies do whatever they can to make it even harder on these people. It was so disturbing and disgusting to me that I resigned from my position and started my own businesses online. This article is written from my experience in the homeowners insurance and adjusters field and the inside secrets of how insurance adjusters and homeowners insurance companies actually work.

Basically when a person files a claim with their homeowners insurance company, the company then picks their favorite adjustment firm, (read that as the one that saves them the most money every month), or they have their own in house adjusters and then the insurance company faxes them your claim form. From there a file is made and the wheels are set into motion to visit your property, take photos and write a report. The insurance adjuster will then show you the report and you probably won't even understand much of what they are telling you as they make it as difficult as possible for the average person to read the breakdown of the way they came up with the final figure that your homeowners insurance company is willing to pay you for your losses.

They then wave the amount in front of you telling you that this is the highest and only amount that the insurance company is willing to pay you for your losses and all you need to do is sign the paperwork and they will give you a check in the amount on the form that they themselves came up with. STOP! Do not sign this if you have no idea what you are signing!!

It's nothing less than preying on innocent people who have suffered through the loss of property and personal belongings. You just want your life back to normal and the opportunity to replace your items. But will you get enough of a settlement to replace all your losses? Probably not and here's some reasons.

I posted a few weeks ago, About Hurricane Rita/Ike, Well another Tree hit my with Hurricane Ike, The Tree landed in between the carport and the kitchen/bedroom area, By the door off the carport the ceramic tile has creaks leading away from a load bearing wall and they are starting to Buckle, My Insurance Company sent me a check within 10 days. They gave me more then they gave me with Rita, There was more damage with Rita then Ike. I had that tree took off my house and now I have to pay the man. Insurance check came Last Friday and this was all good but when I brought it to the bank to deposit it they had the wrong Mortgage company on the check. So I called and sent a e-mail and told them that I was very upset with them. By 8:00am I got a phone call from my insurance company and they told me that they would overnight me the check. So Quick so fast. I had to wait at least 2 months before I got any thing. And in 10 days I get this check. what's up with that? What I'm asking for is for them

About 3 years ago we went through Hurricane Rita, Yes Insurance Adjuster came and our Insurance paid for the Damages. Well we thought we got out like bandits. We have had our house for Sale now for 15 months. After a year or so I started seeing my wooden planks bowing, Sticking doors/windows. A few days ago I was looking into putting new carpeting in my house and looked under the old carpets and padding. And I saw big cracks. A 90 foot pine tree fell on the back of the house during the storm. The weight of this tree cracked the foundation. I think were a victim again. No bodies going to buy this house. I can't give it away now. What to do? I have contacted the Insurance company and I am still waiting for an answer. And I know they will not help us. I am fighting mad. They will not get away with this. Cause just about every year they go up. And they don't tell you your insurance cost are going up either. I had found this on my own. Why do theses insurance companies get away with this. T

I have a situation. Last July my house was broken into. Approx $7000 worth of stuff was taken. To this date, a month short of a year, the insurance has yet to pay off or deny our claim. They claim that it's becouse our house still has fuses and that they are not sure if that was stated on the policy. I understand that, but why does it take a year to check up on something so simple? Either accept the claim or don't, but don't leave us in limbo. Is there some sort of time frame the insurance company need to uphold?

That is so terrible Lynn. What are you going to do? Is there another company that will give you insurance? If you don't mind, was it State Farm that is cancelling your policy or another company?

Our insurance carrier is cancelling our policy because of possible future natural disasters. We live in Houston, Tx and have vinyl siding on our house not brick. I don't know who to trust to insure us "Just In Case" something happens. It's really sad...Thank you for the insight of your article.

Looks like you've written the "Insurance Bible" - A copy of this is going into my "important documents" file right now!

Well I found this article very interesting, but I also was in the insurance industry and you have left out some very important facts. First of all of course they want to find ways to trim the fat of these expensive insurance claims. These days everybody wants to make a claim on everything to get an extra buck. Part of the reason that these people who help trim the fat of claims were hired, was due to the fact that they have to continue to raise premiums because so many people are making so many rediculouse claims for everything under the sun. They wouldn't have to trim the fat of the claims if it weren't for society free loaders, and fraudulent claimers. I understand that's not the innocent persons fault, but that's exactly why they have to do this. Definitely fight for what is rightfully yours to fight, but people need to realize that without some form of control, these companies insuring you would go out of business, and would not be able to pay anything out. Then you get noth

Great tips! I hope I never need them. Thanks for sharing this information.

Wow-thanks for the info. My husband and I hope to get into a home in the next five years or so (I hate debt). We'll keep this in mind.

All insurance companies are in the business of making money - not protecting their customers. Insurance of any kind is the organized crime of the millenium! Great article, thanks for the tips.

Really informative, excellent article.

Terrific insider article. What I hate is when they claim they only have to pay replacement cost and only if you actually get a repair made. There may be times when you want to not do the repair and take the $ on your loss- insurance companies seem to do everything in their power to convince you that you don't have that right.

Thanks for the informative article. I am surprised at the fervor that insurance workers are responding with. I hope that they sign up and write a counter point article. I think it is common knowledge that this is how insurance companies operate, they are after all a business that needs to be profitable. I think it should be mentioned though that their practices are also meant to detect and deter insurance fraud. It is unfortunate that they forget about the honest folk who just want to get things back how they were.

Thank you all for your comments. This actually was a personal thing I believe with the person hiding and not posting with their AC name. But it's all the same and I thank you all so much for backing me up in this. I almost feel like taking the weeks it would take to research the parts I don't know and compiling a huge ebook of all the lawsuits and statements of other's that have stepped forward to expose the insurance companies. Oh and another secret while I'm at it. If you work for or are a friend or family member of an insurance adjuster you are golden. Say you lose a few shingles off your roof and it's leaking or whatever. They will make sure you get a whole new roof! Heavy snow made your carport tilt? Brand new one, not a repair a brand new one. How's that for inside information!!! I saw it happen more than once.

I am grateful for Rhonda's candor. As Samuel Jackson would say, "There is not a GOTTAMN thing" that she is saying that is not true. Look at the devastation that happened in Louisiana, and I am not talking about the storm, I am talking about how the insurance companies, State Farm, to be exact SCREWED the hell out of their policy holders. All Rhonda is doing is telling the truth, I am 100% behind her... and grateful for her honesty and guts to tell it like it is.
