Time management is an important tool for the new mom.

Time Management, New Moms and Naps

One major component of time management for new moms is the concept of "nap when the baby naps."

This can be harder than it sounds for any woman who is accustomed to being busy and for women who like to keep a clean house. So often a new mom, from the baby's birth until the baby is 12 months old or beyond will not follow this advice.

It can be difficult to nap when the baby naps, but it is also important to put this advice in perspective.

For the new mom, her manangement of sleep time is important. Sleep is more important than an impeccable house. This is a very hard concept for some women to understand. When you have a baby, especially a newborn, and/or a nurser, mom needs sleep to maintain optimum health. A drained and tired mom is not the best mom for baby. It also takes a toll on nursing.

When an infant naps, mom should also nap and not worry about the vacuuming or the dusting.

As the baby gets older, and his or schedule firms up, with less awake time, mom will not need as many naps and can use nap time to be productive.

Importance of Time Management for New Moms

One of the tasks a new mom, a stay-at-home mom, or a woman easing back into the workforce with part time hours may find is that she does not have time for anything. Moms needs to use their time management skills.

Figure out what absolutely needs to be done. This list usually involves feeding, changing, the baby, playing with the baby. it also means doing baby;s laundry and other laundry. keeping household areas clean for baby. It could also mean cleaning, doing the bills, shopping and cooking.

Moms with babies have a lot on their plates and something will need to fall to the wayside. The sooner the new mom realizes that, the better off she will be. do you really need to vacuum every day/ Or do laundry ever single day>? Can some of these activities be done every other day or even once a week?

I always thought that when the baby was asleep, that was my break time from work. When the baby woke up, time to get back to work. Great advice in this article but agree with LuAnn it is easier said than done.

Thanks for the comments LuAnn. I wrote this in response to a friend who told me she was having trouble finding time to cook with her 10-month-old. I just tried to include some things that worked for me. These are just suggestions, for anyone who is wondering what has worked for another parent.
