The Indian social structure is entwined with the religious beliefs of the Indian people. The caste system of India reinforced the idea of reincarnation. This idea helped to bring stability to India society and subservience to the outnumbered ruling castes. There are four castes and one non-caste. The caste system becomes complex when the castes are dissected into sub-castes. There are also many philosophies that play a part in the social lives of Indian people, especially Brahman men. To understand the social structure of India, the religious beliefs of its people must be examined.
