Have you ever been in the situation where you have just finished charging your iPod, and all of a sudden it shuts down while you're listening to some music? Knowing that you've just charged it, you wonder why it's not working. So you try charging it again, after which it's still dead. After you throw it down on the couch and curse at it, it occurs to you that the life of your iPod battery may have ran it's course.

So what do you do? Well, in order to get your toy working again, it's important to have a general understanding of what constitutes an iPod battery. Once you have that figured out, knowing what to do, in order to bring your favorite mp3 player back to life is as easy as purchasing something, and using it for that purpose.

The type of battery utilized by the iPod, is a lithium ion battery. In comparison to the round batteries which are used in flashlights or television remotes for example, a lithium ion battery is much more powerful, while being very thin, and light in weight. Every time that you charge and use your mp3 player, the battery permanently looses a little bit of it's life. As time passes, it will loose more and more of it's power, until finally it will be drained permanently, at which time, it will be necessary to buy an iPod battery replacement kit, in order to replace the lithium ion battery.

As a simple example of how long an iPod battery can last, let's use the iPod mini. Say that it's battery is fully charged, holding enough power to play music for an hour. After the hour has passed, it needs another charge in order to continue functioning. You go ahead and charge it again, and this time the charge lasts for fifty-nine minutes, instead of sixty. Basically you will lose thirty seconds to a minute of play time, every time you charge it.

Takeaways
  • Mp3 players utilize a lithium ion power source.
  • An iPod's battery can be replaced using an iPod battery replacement kit.
  • iPods are built to last indefinitely.
