Researchers studying the eating habits of kids have noted that teenagers do not eat as many vegetables as they should. This really shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone considering most people in general do not eat enough vegetables - or fruits for that matter.

As a result of the study being published on TV reports, in newspapers and online, people are pondering the question of how to get teens to eat more vegetables. The answer is really quite simple. It's just a matter of deciding whether you are willing to make a lifestyle change, or you want to continue feeding into that McDonald's craving you get every time dinner rolls around.

Incorporating vegetables slowly into your diet is easy. It's the maintenance and your food ethic that remains the culprit when it comes to poor eating habits.

Salads are the best and easiest way to start eating more vegetables. They are simple to make and offer a lot of health benefits. One of the easiest salads to make is a Caesar salad. All you need to do is purchase a head of romaine lettuce, some chicken and Caesar dressing (Kraft actually makes a good Caesar dressing).

Chop the romaine while all of the individual leaves are still stuck together and then wash and drain the leaves. You can cook chicken on a regular skillet pan with some vegetable oil and basic salt, pepper and garlic.

Then all you do is toss the chicken, lettuce and dressing together. If you are one of those people who likes multi-tasking, make enough to last you the whole week. Just make sure that the lettuce leaves are extra dry before storing the salad in a container and do not put the dressing on until you are ready to eat the salad.

The dressing is light on fat and does not include the traditional egg in most Caesar salads that cause some health concerns. Plus there are no fattening croutons are an excess of parmesan cheese.

Another way of incorporating vegetables into your diet is to make kabobs mixing salmon, fish and vegetables on a stick. The kabobs can include salmon, chicken (prepared much like that in the Caesar salad above), shrimp, bell peppers, cucumbers and tomatoes.

Takeaways
  • Mixing more vegetables into your diet is easy
  • Salads and lettuce wraps are easy and can be made in bulk to last the entire week
  • Kabobs are also a great way to eat more vegetables and lean proteins
