Make Your Own Stained Glass Candle Votives
Stained Glass Craft Project
You can make these simple stained glass candle votives for your own home or even as a fun hostess gift.
Making these stained glass candle votives should take you about 2 hours tops!
To Transformed Your Clear Glass Candle Votives into Stained Glass Art You Will Need:
Peel and stick lead
Clear glass candle votive
Stained Glass Paint
Paint Brushed
Scissors
To start this craft project you need to decide on a pattern. Your stained glass pattern will determine what stained glass paint colors you need to buy.
Measure the clear glass candle votive you are going to transform. Mark this space out on a piece of drawing paper and sketch out your design. If you have markers I suggest coloring in areas the colors you would like them to be. The more specific you are in the planning the less room for mistakes.
Once you have established your stained glass design you need to transfer it to your candle votive. I like to tape the sketch to the inside of the candle votive so that it shows through the front. You can fill in just like a coloring book!
Painting the stained glass is the next step. Use a natural bristle artist paintbrush to fill in your colors. Work up to the edges in each block of color. You will be covering the rough edges with peel and stick lead, so you don't have to make them absolutely perfect.
Once your stained glass is completely painted you need to let it dry complete. While your paint is drying your can work on your peel and stick lead.
Remove the sketch from the back of the window and use this to cut out your peel and stick lead.
This is a great way to make your stained glass look built in.
Once you lead is cut you can install it. Carefully apply your peel and stick lead over all of the edges, just like real stained glass.
Tips:
-Use clear glass food jars to save money. Be sure to take the label off. I like to soak mine in some hot soapy water for about an hour. Use a rubber spatula to start scraping the label off. Some food labels will peel off easily, but others will rewire this extra bit of work.
