Amazon & TiVo to Bring Movie Downloads to TV

Amazon.com launched a service awhile back that allowed users to purchase movie downloads for their computer. The service, called Amazon.com Unbox, allows users to download movies starting at $1.99. Prices vary according to the size and popularity of the content. Amazon.com will now bring that same service to your television.

In a landmark deal that will help Amazon.com further establish it's UNBOX concept, TiVo will partner with the company to enable movie downloads to appear on your television. There currently are many annoying pieces of software and wires that can be used to transfer movies from your computer screen to your television. This concept will be different from it's competitors. Instead, you will be able to download movies off the Amazon.com Unbox service and opt to send them to your TiVo. If you are a TiVo subscriber, you will be able to transfer the movies you purchase off Amazon to your TiVo box. Talk about convenience!

With TiVo continuously growing in popularity, this deal is very significant for both companies. Amazon will now offer a service that is unique to it's competitors. "Amazon Unbox on TiVo" differs from movie download services from competitors such as Wal-Mart and Apple, as well as the standalone Unbox service, in that content is sent (via TiVo) to the customer's TV rather than PC. Many movie companies are excited about this new partnership. CBS, Fox Entertainment Group, Lions Gate, Paramount Pictures, Universal Studios Home Entertainment and Warner Bros have already agreed to deals with the two companies to be a part of the service.

The service should begin rather soon. Many other companies are working hard at ways in which they can get movie downloads to TV sets. Apple is currently planning to release their own unique concept. They have a product called Apple TV that will be released to the public in the next year. The product will enable the consumer to have the ability to play heir digital content wirelessly in the living room.
