Carmelo Anthony is finally an NBA All-Star. Despite the controversy that surrounded him earlier in the season, David Stern announced Friday that Anthony would one of the replacements for injured players Yao Ming and Carlos Boozer. This selection comes after speculation that Anthony wasn't being placed on the team as a result of an on-court fight that took place between his Denver Nuggets and the New York Knicks. Throwing a punch netted Anthony a 15-game suspension, and until this point, had cost him an all-star spot. Going into the suspension, Anthony had been leading the NBA in scoring, and was thought by many to be a MVP candidate at the end of the season. Everything changed for him when that fight broke out, and ever since Anthony has been scrambling to improve his perceived image around the league.

Playing in (and starting) 32 games to this pint, Anthony has averaged 30.8 points per game, 5.9 rebounds per game, and 4.2 assists per game. On February 5th, he posted the first triple-double of his career by scoring 31 pints, grabbing 10 rebounds, and dishing out 10 assists. On all accounts, Anthony is having the best season of his career, and seems to have taken his place among the elite players in the NBA. The Syracuse graduate is really making a name for himself in only his 4th NBA season, and has only been getting better with age. Though only 21 years old, he has quickly become a fan-favorite, and a well deserved all-star selection.
