Dallas Cowboys Hire Wade Phillips? What, Bum Phillips Wasn't Available?

Jerry Jones' Latest Hire Another Headscratcher

Yessir, Dallas Cowboy fans, your boy Jerry Jones has done it again. Ever since Jones and Jimmy Johnson had their Clash Of The Titan egos over who should get the most credit for 2 Super Bowl victories in 1994, Jones has
hired: Barry Switzer, a motivator and recruiter who couldn't coach a wild bear to relieve hinself in the woods, Chan Gailey, no explanation needed, Dave Campo, ditto, Bill Parcells, a good hire but a marriage that figured to last about as long as Federline-Spears, and now Wade Phillips? The same Wade Phillips who flopped in Denver and Buffalo? Yes, that Wade Phillips. The one who benched Doug Flutie in favor of Rob "Paper or Plastic" Johnson, the most sacked Quarterback of all time based on sacks per pass attempt. The guy known more as the son of former Houston Oilers Head man O.E. "Bum" Phillips and the Coach on the other sideline when the Tennessee Titans pulled off the Music City Miracle a few years back.

If Jerry Jones was determined to hire a retread, why not Dom Capers or Mike Sherman? Those guys, Capers anyway, may be has-beens, but Wade Phillips is a never-was as a Head Coach. His record is barely above .500 with a postseason mark of 0-3. Just the cure for what ails Cowboy fans after struggling to make the playoffs (did you say playoffs?) the last few seasons. Then Parcells gets to the playoffs a couple of times and loses. That's the ticket. Replace a Hall of fame Coach with a guy who has never won a playoff game as a Head Coach. The Charger team he served as defensive cooordinator lost in the first round of the playoffs. Speaking of which, Jim Mora, Sr. would have been a better choice than Wade Phillips. And a whole lot more entertaining in the press conferences. At least Wade's daddy Bum had a few down home sayings like "Earl Campbell may not have been in a class by himself, but it sure didn't take long to call roll." Wade is as dull as Tom Landry, but not nearly as successful.

Culley, I'm still waiting for my offer, can you put in a good word for me? Seriously, a first round exit from the playoffs for Wade....kinda proves my point. My point is not that I could do better, but that there were many other proven NFL coaches who could have. Does that clear things up?

Razor, It's apparent by your sarcasm that your no Wade Phillips fan. And you seem very confident in your ability to know how to win post season games yourself, therefore, why arent you a head couch in the NFL?

Thanks, Randy. I just think Phillips is more suited to be a DC than a HC.

"Rob, paper or plastic Johnson" roflol. Nice article, though I have a higher opinion of Phillips than most people.

I agree Zac, I don't know how much it will help the Giants, but since they are in the same division....Cowboy fans are trying to spin, at least some of them, that Phillips will be different than b4, why I say? Ya' think Schottenheimer taught him to win in the postseason?
