Localizing Your Content

With some online experimenting, I figured out something important that you should know: local articles are popular. I know what you're going to say. 1) You live in a big city and everything that's worth writing about has been written about. Or, 2) you live in a small place that nobody cares about. I will be the bearer of good news, here, and tell you that you are wrong. That's a good thing, when you want to write for the web.

Why Big Cities Need Local Content

Big cities are like the Internet, they are always in flux, with a changing population and changing needs. Businesses come and go, especially retail. There is always something new happening or some new business opening in your big city. Give your personal take or review, when you write. People want to try new things, including the new Martini Bar but they want some first-hand information before they spend their money. As a web writer you can provide that.

Why Small Towns Need Local Content

Writers who live in small town can also find an endless amount of topics. Consider the information you need in your town. Maybe you want a list of all the best places to have a gas propane tank filled for the outdoor grill.

Or you want to know the start time and date of the local parade, fireworks, or any other annual event. If you're looking for it people in your town probably are as well. Local newspaper tend to wait until the last minute to publish this information. If your town does not have a newspaper, all the better for you, as a web writer.

Local Content Writers Are Replacing Travel Writers

Due to the costs of paying writers to travel and write about different locations, local content has become more popular with publishers. Maybe you live in a college town or near an airport or stadium. Other people traveling to your town will be looking for information. As a local insider, you can provide that information. You may not consider your town a travel destination, but even people passing through, or visiting nearby towns will be looking for things to do, places to eat, and tips on parking and sightseeing.
