I began traveling at the ripened old age of five weeks, bundled into an old prop plane and hurried on our way, my older brother in tow, my younger sister yet to be born in a future year. At that young age I had no concept of other cultures and other peoples, I only knew the warmth of my mothers body and the beat of her heart, but that would be a distant part of what our lives would become in the very near future. Throughout my life I have been immersed and reimmersed into new places, new existences, new people and each has become a part of me, a piece of who I am and who I may yet be. I have learned many things in each and every one of these cities and countries and have never ceased to continue this journey of wondrous discovery. It flows in my blood and each place touched continues to course it's way into me and make it's mark in my life.

When you plan a trip or a move to a place away from your home, it is important to remember that this place is not what you have known before and it should not be. What would be the point of traveling to new abodes if everything was just the same as the one you just left? We may as well go nowhere if that was the case. Make the most of the experience.

Think of this as a journey, a new adventure, and of yourself as the explorer, but not the kind that bulldozes into a new place demanding that everything be just as it was in the home you just came from, or the kind who tries to change something that has existed happily in it's own space without interference from outsiders. Just because it is not what you are used to, does not make it less valid or something from which you cannot learn. Our way is not always the only way or the only right way to be. Don't go with preconceived notions of what it has to be, instead go in with an open mind and be prepared to run into unexpected and unknown experiences. That in fact is what makes each place an adventure.

Did You Know?
It is much easier to learn a language or understand a culture by being immersed in it than by reading about it in a book or learning about it in a classroom.

There are over 190 countries.

Thank you. Yes, to make the most out of any travel experience or to appreciate the people and culture of another place, you have to go in with a willing spirit and an open mind to get the most out of the experience, AND to contribute the best of yourself.
