Rita's is the nation's largest Italian ice chain, and it also serves old fashioned custard, gelati, and other exciting frozen treats. Rita's opened its first store in Bensalem, Pennsylvania in 1984 and was purchased by McKnight Capital Partners in 2005. Rita's stores are family-oriented franchise businesses.

Rita's is most popular for its Italian ices. This isn't just your average Italian ice; Rita's ices are made fresh daily on-site with real fruit and come in a large selection of flavours guaranteed to please even the pickiest eater. Rita's ice flavours include cherry, mango, lemon, chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, banana, wild berry, twisted melon, grape, raspberry, pistachio, root beer, raspberry lemonade, citrus blast, tangerine, blueberry, wild black cherry, pink lemonade, green apple, kiwi-strawberry, island fusion, pina colada, tropical punch, passionfruit, and watermelon. Rita's also has a line of cream ices which are a compromise for someone who enjoys the creamier texture of custard but would rather enjoy a healthier ice. Rita's cream ice flavours include fudge brownie, cookies-n-cream, orange cream, mint chocolate chip, banana split cream, vanilla chip, coconut cream, cappuccino cream, berry banana cream, and chocolate chip cookie dough. Rita's also takes your health into consideration with a selection of sugar-free ices made with aspartame or splenda. At the moment there are four sugar-free flavours: cherry, root beer, pink lemonade, and tangerine.

Rita's also offers old-fashioned frozen custard, which is similar to soft-serve ice cream, but is richer and creamier. Rita's old-fashioned frozen custard is available in vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, vanilla/chocolate twist, and vanilla/strawberry twist. Rita's strawberry custard is made with real strawberries. It is available in a cup, waffle cone, or cake cone, with rainbow or chocolate sprinkles. Rita's will soon be offering hot fudge and caramel toppings as well.
