If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Most people want to get rich quick with little or no work. Expert scammers are able to use this to their advantage. People are looking for any reason to justify scammer offers as legit. The key is to be skeptical instead of greedy. Online Scams take many forms. Many of these are sent as emails to their victims.

It can be work with no investment in time or money promising high earnings. If this is true, why would they need anyone else to share their profits? It would be much cheaper to hire someone at a low wage to do so.

It could be someone posing as a legit company wanting to verify your account information and password. The common ones are posing as a bank, paypal or eBay.

Other scams dealing with giving you a check for an excessive amount and for you to wire the difference to an account out of the country. The original check is bogus, but it is too late when discovered.

It could be a stock tip to buy an undervalued company. The scammer makes the money selling their shares when the price rises from supply and demand. The late buyers are stuck with near worthless stock.

It could be an e-mail from someone in another country how a rich relative of yours died or some person can't get money out of the country and need your help. They will give you a large percentage of the money to help them move the funds.

There are plenty of fake lottery scams especially from outside the United States.

It could be sending a chain letter and to send money to others on the list. These have been around forever and are illegal.

Stuffing envelopes is a popular scam that has been around a longtime. The only way to make money is to get other people to pay you to learn about stuffing envelopes.

HYIP (High Yield Investment Programs) are programs that you invest money in companies that are offshore accounts. These are ponzi schemes. The only money in these is from other investors. The promoter ends taking most of the funds and a few people who get in early make some money. The vast majority end losing their shirt and going to the next scam.

Disaster relief scams for a worthy cause, but the problem is a fake charity.
