Herbalism is, without a doubt, one of the most lucrative of the World of Warcraft professions. It can allow you to turn a tidy profit in a few short hours with minimal effort. Ideally, you will want your character's race to be Undead although Tauren and Human are also acceptable. Also keep in mind that Tauren gain a bonus of fifteen to Herbalism which gives them an advantage from the start as they begin with a skill level of sixteen instead of one. This means that for a Tauren, all the level caps for Herbalism are increased by fifteen. Along with the Herbalism profession, mining is a great supplementary profession for earning decent sums of gold within a short length of time. If earning large sums of gold isn't necessarily your thing then the profession of Alchemy is certainly the wiser match for Herbalism. In this brief guide, however, we are going to be looking at the money making advantages of Herbalism.

Your character should be at level five or higher when you learn Herbalism. Much of the time, you will primarily be using the "Find Herb" skill to search for "Silverleaf". This herb fetches a higher price than copper in the lower levels of the game. You will want to travel outside the beginner's area and venture further into the world because this is where you will find the Silverleaf herb. It is very plentiful in the first two areas of the World of Warcraft realm but it is far more plentiful in the Human and Undead areas.

A mere one stack of the Silverleaf herb can fetch as much as, one gold and twenty-five silver or as little as, eighty-five silver at the Auction House. Still, eighty-five silver is still a decent amount for a level ten. This means that, for about ten minutes of effort minimum, you can earn at least eighty-five silver and possibly more. As with anything, prices of items in World of Warcraft will fluctuate and may be very different even now. The going prices of items vary from server to server as well. The real secret is to keep a close eye on which herbs are selling for the most, collect those that are easiest to find, hold on to them, and when the going prices are high enough sell them for a profit at the Auction House.

When your Herbalism level is around 245 you should journey to the Hinterlands. This is a cave in which you will find the Ghost Mushrooms.
