If you are looking for an easy way to organize and pay your monthly bills, it may be time to consider a bill payment service. Many banks and credit unions offer some form of bill payment through their online banking portals, but for people with tens of bills every month, a more comprehensive solution may be necessary. Paying bills online is only half of the answer; receiving bills online and eliminating paper statements at your home is the most critical step for complete organization. Imagine an uncluttered mailbox, with all your bill and payment records in one place on the web. If paperless sounds like your style, consider a third party bill payment service.

Third party bill payment services have some benefits over the more limited offerings of individual banks. For example, if you bank at more than one institution or if you suspect you may switch banks in the future, using a third party service is the best way to ensure continuity under one umbrella.

You may be wondering what this kind of solution looks like. Instead of logging into your bank’s website to see your checking account and pay individual bills from a paper stack, you’ll be logging into a separate website that already contains images of your bills. Short of hiring your own personal accountant, the Intuit company (makers of popular Turbo Tax and Quicken software) provides the best bill payment service: PAYTRUST. This remarkable website, supported by a financial services company called Metavante Corporation, blows its competition out of the water.

For under $15 a month, Paytrust offers what they call “complete bill management,” meaning that they will collect your bills for you, display them online, and allow you to pay them from any United States checking accounts you choose. You can then view your payment history, create reports, and even order secure year-end CDs.

If you pay more than 10 bills per month, you should probably use a third party bill payment service such as www.paytrust.com.

I travel extensively for work (approx 200 days per year) and somehow end up missing a credit card payment here and a misc. bill there. I have many credit cards, several bank accounts, a few mortgages, and lots of creditors in general since I have personal bills, share some bills with my boyfriend, run my own business, run a shared business with my boyfriend, take care of my mom and have a few income properties (not going to sell in this market!). I used to use mycheckfree.com a few years ago (ahh, back when life was simple and I only had a few bills to pay and only one mouth to feed) and while researching today noticed that they don't have all of my creditors on their list anymore... the fact that paytrust.com can also write a paper check solves that one. Yes, my banks' bill pay account has the check writing feature, but it is limited. It doesn't help when my credit card companies change their due date back and forth (I've actually been late by one day because of it!) and my b

I have been using Paytrust for several years and I think it is worth the 10.95 I pay per month. They also provide a summary of your spending for the year for $20.00. All the agents are knowlegible and helpful whenever I call. Some confusion does arise when asked for a billing address since it will no longer be your home or post office box. My new phone book is always sent to South Dakota along with other stray mail which Paytrust eventually sends back to me!

The only bill I pay online is my car insurance and Netflix. I'm old fashioned I guess, I still send out checks. lol

Interesting-I've been paying more bills online and this looks promising. My mortgage compnay (the bums) charge 50 bucks a month if you want to pay online or over the phone, so the mail option is a great idea as well.
