Harlem, Manhattan is a neighborhood that has gone through a great renaissance in recent years. The older apartment buildings and brownstones have been, and still are binging renovated to their former glory. Compare the prices here with the rest of Manhattan. You can get a home in Harlem for less than a comparable size one in most of the rest of Manhattan. One of the reasons is that Harlem is one of the neighborhoods that is the furthest away from the business district of mid town. But, unless walking to work is really important to you, with the subway and buses, you can be in Midtown in hardly anytime at all. The nearer you are to the south in Harlem, the more a unit will cost. You are right near Central Park and that counts.

When looking for a home, you have to find a neighborhood that fits your lifestyle. Every place is not right for everyone. Harlem has some great things going for it. It is just across the river from the Bronx, easy to get to the zoo and Yankee stadium. It is also just south of the George Washington Bridge, making it an easy trip to New Jersey. Harlem has its own shopping district located mostly on and around 125th Street. There is the world famous Apollo Theater, a New York landmark, some great restaurants of many different styles and plenty of parks and community centers. Community centers in Harlem and in the rest of New York have great programs for the whole family. You can find after school and summer programs for the children as well as social events like dinners and dances for the adults. As for the parks, New York has one of the best park systems in Harlem you will find 3 parks Harlem River Park/Alice Kornegay Triangle, Harlem River Park Harlem River Drive Park/Crack Is Wack Playground. Check out the Department of Parks web site for details on each park and make note of all the free events that go on all year long.

If you have decided that Harlem is a neighborhood that you would enjoy living in, then it is time to take into consideration the different housing opportunities available.

Wow, so many inaccuracies in this article, but also some important information. Anyone with a limited budget should look at the NYC housing website for affordable homes.
