How to Choose the Right Church for You

Are you currently thinking of joining a church, but you don't have a clue about what to look for?

You're by no means alone. There are as many reasons for seeking out a church as there are people. It may be that you've moved to a new area and want to find a place to worship God. It may be that you attended church as a kid, but drifted away from the practice as an adult and wnat to get reconnected once more. It may even be that you're still a bit skeptical about going to church at all, because of past negative experiences, but you're willing to at least give it a try. (This
was the case with my husband and me). Whatever your reason for considering finding a church home is, here are some suggestions that may assist you in determining if a particular church is the right one for you.

Look for quality rather than quantity.

One of the things that turned me off of attending churches for awhile was that I had gone to one of those huge mega-churches. Like some people, I assumed that the larger a church was, the more "spiritual" they must be or they wouldn't have drawn such huge crowds. Do not always equate "bigger" with "better".

While I am not putting down mega-churches, as a whole, they are not for everyone. If you require more intimate fellowship and want to feel a close sense of comraderie with people, it's difficult to do that at a very large church. They have dozens of programs to sign up for and endless groups to join, but my personal experience has been that, beneath the surface, there is a lot of disconnection in some of these "super churches" and you can end up feeling lost in the crowd.
