Located in West Memphis, Arkansas, Southland Greyhound Park is home to some of the country's best greyhound racing. Southland runs a year-round meet, with greyhounds competing over distances that range from the 583 yard Arkansas Course, the longest sprint distance in the nation, to the 660 yard 3/8ths of a mile Razorback Course and a 703 yard marathon event called the River Course. Southland Greyhound Park puts on seven performances a week, with no racing on Sundays and Tuesdays and doubleheaders on Mondays and Saturdays. Here are some of Southland Greyhound Park's most outstanding racers.HDM Juana has already won ten races in her short career at Southland, breaking her Maiden back in November of 2006 and progressing right up the grading ladder to the top AA grade at the Arkansas oval. HDM Juana has captured four of these AA contests with her ability to fly to the lead and win going away. Juana is only two years old and should be a Southland standout for a long time to come. The red female has lost just one time when she poked her nose in front at the first turn, ironically in her very first race against other Maidens.
Cabela Drive has had a start to her Southland racing life that is very similar to HDM Juana. This brindle bitch will be two in March but has already taken eight races with a running style that resembles Juana's in that she makes it to the bend in front and never looks back. To date, Cabela Drive has a pair of AA victories and has failed to run first or second in just a quarter of her sixteen starts. Greys Real Deal is a red male that is just a tad older than these first two sprinters that I have mentioned, but he possesses a fantastic late kick that he unleashes down the stretch. Real Deal does not often get close early in a race, but when he has cleared the turn third or better he has been beaten only once. It would seem a good bet that this greyhound will be tried on the 660 yard Razorback Course some time in the near future at Southland.
