My husband and I both love Italian food. However, our tastes with regard to Italian food are quite different. He likes the more bland, standard tomato sauce type. I prefer a little spice. Consequently, we tend to do our Italian cooking at home where we can each control the taste. Still, we decided it was time to try a cute little Italian/Greek restaurant that we pass by regularly in our travels. I'm glad that we did!

White Castle Restaurant does actually look a bit like a castle, complete with a round turret shaped room (and, yes, it is painted white). On the inside, it has more of a Greek flair with prints of knights and their ladies, swords, and shields. They even had a similar mural painted on the wall of the turret room.

I find the restaurant just a little too dingy for my taste. I realize that they are going for a soft, romantic feel with the chandelier lighting. However, the dark curtains and very dark wood ceiling fans, seem to close in the space and make it feel a bit like a dungeon. My husband, on the other hand, thinks the place is cozy. I guess it really is different strokes for different folks.

I do have to say, however, that there was an obvious thick line of dust on the edge of the fan blades the day we ate there. I was, therefore, glad they were not turned on at the time. I would have run for the hills had they been. Not only would I not want that in my food, I'm highly allergic and the mere thought of all that dust swirling in the air was disconcerting.

White Castle's menu is extremely thorough and sufficiently diverse. They have a luncheon menu, which offers slightly smaller portions for a reduced price. Overall, their prices are quite reasonable and their good portions are huge.

I ordered the meat lasagna on our visit. It was piping hot and absolutely delicious. It wasn't done in traditional lasagna style with layers of noodles, however. It was more like the noodles had been broken or cut into an already existing sauce. Still, the taste was not changed and I was pleased with my selection.

Great review. Where is this located? It sounds like a great place. And I love it that you added the menu. It's a great way to advertize. Hehe. Bye

Hey guys, sorry for the "White Castle" confusion. That is why I put restaurant in the title; hopefully to stave off the mixup with White Castle burgers. HOWEVER, I think the building was originally a White Castle Burger joint and they just adapted it to their needs. If not, then they copied the design pretty darn well. (I was not in Virginia during the opening of the eatery, so I'm not certain of its exact origin.)

I gotta wonder why anyone would name their restaurant "White Castle" when the general public is just going to think about the fast food chain. Even the look of the place sounds like the chain!
