Watching the news has become as thrilling as a horror movie. Death and destruction are everywhere. From across the street to halfway around the world, drugs, murder, and war have become prevalent. Are these ongoing problems sentencing the world to doom?My hometown has recently made the largest drug bust our city has ever seen. Over two hundred pounds of marijuana was seized about five miles from my home. At this point, it appears only one man is responsible for intending to distribute the marijuana, which is valued at about $600,000 on the street.
In one city not far from my own, a woman was murdered by her daughter's boyfriend. It seems the young man heard rumor of his girlfriend seeing an ex-lover. He confronted her and in his jealous fit, when the mother intervened, the young man shot her. He may be facing the death penalty.
Not far from my home state, the violence continues. One man has been arrested for locking his toddler daughter outside in freezing temperatures. The child's frozen body was discovered when a neighbor followed the tiny footprints in the snow. A woman was arrested for killing her disabled foster child. After the woman initiated an extensive search saying the child disappeared from a local park, the child was found dead. It has been alleged, the child died when his foster mother wrapped him in a blanket, secured it with packing tape, and left him in a closet.
Focusing more worldwide, suicide bombers have come out of the woodwork like cockroaches. Almost every recent news report has at least one new story of a suicide bomber. Some stories are of the bomber being caught and arrested. Others consist of a lengthy report of the damage the bomb caused and the innocent lives taken in the blast.
The war on Iraq is suspected of growing yet again. Though denied by White House administration, there is speculation that the war may spread to Iran. It appears that Iran is supplying Iraqi terrorists with military grade weapons, putting US troops in even greater danger.
