More Phonics Stories with High-Interest and Frequent Repetion of Difficult Sounds--'Short - I' - Six Kids, Six Moms

Another Silly Story and Lesson Plans for Teaching Difficult Letter Sounds

Phonics is the core of reading instruction. I am presenting a series of phonics lessons and stories with high-interest (for the older early reader who may feel demeaned by the childish stories used to teach phonics). Often, the short vowel sounds are more difficult to learn. Long vowels
make the sound of the letter name, but short vowels make a different and unusual sounds.

Here is another phonics story for the 'short i' sound and spelling pattern. I make copies of the story for students to read and illustrate. We make lists of 'word families' (ilk, ing, iss, etc.) from the story and add any other words to that family. We post these lists on the wall to help with spelling patterns.
These word families become our list of 10-15 spelling words for the week.
