Making your own faux carved architectural Picture Frames is a super affordable way to make a fun hostess gift, Christmas gift, or even wedding gift.

These faux carved Picture Frames are also great gifts for friends and family. No one can argue with receiving a beautiful Picture Frame

to display in his or her home and you can save a ton of money this year on gift giving.

This is also a great craft or art project for a family. The materials are inexpensive and can be bought in bulk to cut down on costs. Everyone can work to make quite a few beautiful picture frames for the home.

The amount of time it takes to make these architectural Picture Frames is small, but you do need to account for some drying time, plan on spending a day or to with this home decor craft project.

To Make Faux Carved Picture Frames You Will need:

Old newspaper
Water putty (or plaster of Paris for projects that won't be painted)
Water
Small disposable container
Paint stir stick
2 to 3 inch paintbrush
Modeling/craft clay

Plain wood frame

Finishing nails

Glue
Architectural details from your home improvement store

Water-based paint in antique white, cream or another color of your choice

The first step n this simple craft project is to cover work surface with a few layers of old newspaper. You could also use a plastic table cloth. Either one of these materials will make clean up a lot easier.

Now, take your plain wood frame and start adding some detail to it. This will be the basis for all of your frames. I like to either glue on or use finish nails to attach architectural detail pieces to the frame.

Now, Roll your clay out in a slab that is about 1/8" thicker than raised design piece you are using. You can use real clay or air drying clay, either will work just fine. They can also be bought at any art supply store.

Now, to create mold you need to press the Picture Frame design into the clay. Gently press down so that the Picture Frame is captured, but not so that your architectural detail comes out the back.

Now, Mix putty with water in the cheap bucket or container according to manufacturer's directions. You wan the mixture to be smooth and lump free.
