Looking for a unique and homemade gift for the kids to make for Mom for Mother's Day? This engraved Wood Serving Tray is an elegant, stylish, and extremely useful gift that the kids can make for a Mother's Day gift.

Mother's Day gift ideas can become a little difficult over time as Mom acquires almost anything she actually needs. No Mom I know could every have enough homemade keepsakes from the kids though!

You should buy good quality Wood Serving Tray as the basis for this project. I bought my Wood Serving Tray for about $19 at Bed Bath and Beyond and the wood really looks substantial, laying a great foundation for any engravings I might add.

To Make an Engraved Wood Serving Tray Mother's Day gift You Will Need:

1 Wood Serving Tray

Wood Burning Tool

White computer paper

Pencil or pen

Sheet of Graphite

Letters or Image

Wood burning tool tips

Stencil (optional)

Now, once you have bought your Wood Serving Tray you can determine what design or words you want to engrave with your wood burning tool. Try to customize this unique gift to suit your own Mother.

I recommend small designs or words. You could write "World's #1 MOM," "Best MOM," or even "I Love You."

Now, you can do anything from simple words to a more difficult image. The trick is to transfer it to your Wood Serving Tray.

Lay your Wood Serving Tray out on a sheet of white paper. Trace the shape out of the bottom of the tray. Now, you will need to work slightly smaller inside of this area you traced.

Whatever image or words you chose to engrave on the Wood Serving Tray you can use a sheet of graphite to transfer the design to your tray. Simply lay the sheet of graphite down first, and then lay out your image, words, or whatever on top. Now, use a pen to trace all the needed lines, edges, and details.

Tip: Tape your graphite down at the top. Tape your image down at the top of the paper as well. Now, when you are working you can easily lift them up and take a peek at how your image or words are coming out on the Wood Serving Tray.

If you move the image out of place without the tape, it will be almost impossible to return it to the right spot.

Takeaways
  • If you move the image out of place without the tape, it will be almost impossible to return.
  • The only other tip I can think to give you is to trace the image or words with a red ink pen.
  • You will see where you have traced and where you have not.
Did You Know?
Now, once you have finished tracing your image onto the Wood Serving Tray it is time to start engraving the image with your wood burning tool.
