the Ungoing Race to Cure Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer, a curse word for most women, yet in 2005 alone 251,650 women developed this disease of which 40,410 died. Women today are much more aware of the potential risk factors for developing this disease. A family history of breast cancer increases a woman's chances of developing this illness 4 fold, lack of exercise also associated with obesity is also a contributing risk factor, here are a few other risk factors for breast cancer: hormonal changes such as menstruation before 12 and pregnancy after 30, alcoholism, tobacco use, age, and ethnicity. There is hope however for women who have already obtained this horrible ailment. The Koman Race for the Cure an affiliate of the Susan G. Koman Cancer Foundation which was founded by Nancy Goodman Brinker four years after her sister Susan was diagnosed with breast cancer whom later succumbed to the illness. The race for the cure was a way to get the message out there that cancer doesn't have to be a death sentence, it can be hope, recovery, and possibly a new life which isn't taken for granted anymore but thanked each and every day.
