How to Manage Your Front Page in Joomla

Managing the front page of Joomla is a lot easier than you may think. Did you know that you can put your welcome message on the front page and make it stay? You can also make the newest articles or tutorials go straight to the front page of Joomla when they are published. You can order the things that you have on the front page. In this tutorial I will show you how to manage the front page of Joomla. So let's begin.

How to Manage your Front Page in Joomla

The first thing that you will need to do is log in to the admin area of Joomla. We will first start off with how to get a welcome message on the front page. Once you have logged in to your admin panel, you will see some buttons on that page. Click on the Add New Content button. The next page is where you will type your welcome message. Fill in all the fields that you want. Then over on the right hand side of the page you will see the publishing info box. It is very important that you check the Show on Front Page box. This will place your welcome message on the front page. Click the Save button at the top right to save that message.

You can also put more messages or whatever you want on the front page by following the above steps. The important key is to check the Show on Front Page box. When you add news, articles, or whatever, you shouldn’t check the Show on Front Page box because it will push your other stuff off of the page.

Next, I will show you how to put your messages in order on your front page. Every time that you add a new message to the front page, it will put the newest message first. So each time you add something new to the front page, you will need to follow these instructions to keep your welcome message at the top of the page.

Go to the top of your Joomla window and click Content > Front Page Manager. This will bring up the page where you can manage your front page messages. You will see a section that says Order. Under order you will see numbers. That is the numbers to tell how to order the messages on the front page. Change those numbers to change the order of the messages. For example, if you want the welcome message to be at the top, you would put number one in the box beside the welcome message.
