Tired of finding out that you're scrambling for work because you couldn't resist hitting that snooze button just one more time? I can sympathize. I used to have to set my alarm for about two hours before I actually wanted to get out of bed, so as to allow me adequate snoozing time. However, with a few simple adjustments, you can be sure that the time you set on the alarm is the time you'll start your day.

The first, and most essential part of saying goodbye to the snooze button is making sure you get enough sleep. It's amazing how much easier it is to get out of bed when you're body feels like it's gotten enough sleep. That may mean no more late nights with David Letterman, but that's a sacrifice we have to make to escape the grip of the snooze. Depending on when you need to get up in the morning, try your best to make sure you allow for at least eight hours of solid sleep. It's important to remember that when you climb into bed, it can take up to a half hour for you to fall completely asleep, and budget that into your schedule. This single change to your sleeping habits will have a dramatic effect on your relationship with your alarm clock.

Of course, if you can't guarantee at least eight hours every night, there are a few tricks you can play on your sleep self to make sure that you won't be running late to work again.

One such trick is to set your alarm clock for an uneven time. In other words, avoid setting the alarm clock for 6:30 or 7:15, but rather opt for a more obscure time, like 6:27 or 7:12. That way, when you groggily turn to address the beeping alarm clock, it's harder for your sleep-addled brain to do some quick math to determine how much more time you can devote to dozing. Not knowing how much time you have left to sleep means you'll be that much more reluctant to press the snooze one last time.
