Toy Review: Learning Piggy Bank

The first time I saw this Learning Piggy Bank at my local Kohl's department store I wanted to buy it for my daughter. A toy piggy bank? I thought...that just looks fun.

The pink piggy bank comes with 10 pretend coins of 5 colors and 2 sizes. When my daughter drops a coin into the coin slot she is rewarded with either a sound or a number.

The piggy bank can be turned on for counting or for music, and of course it can be turned off, too. If turned on for counting, whenever a coin gets dropped into the slot, the toy says "one," then "two" all the way to "ten." My daughter is 2 1/2 and just learned to count to ten (in order) within the last few weeks; she has heard her toy count over and over as she played with it.

When turned on for music and a coin is dropped inside the slot, the piggy bank will play a short tune, then stop to wait for another coin to be dropped.

Besides singing and counting along with the dropped coins, the piggy bank also will sing and grunt, sneeze, say "excuse me" and other silly sounds whenever his snout is pushed. The snout sounds change regarding to whether the toy is turned on for music or for counting. The snout songs are really fun tunes, and my daughter dances around the piggy bank, in circles, while it sings. Sometimes she sings along with it, too!

When one or all of the coins are placed into the slot, my daughter can open the transparent door on the side of the toy to get them out. When the door is opened the piggy bank says, "open." When closed, it says, "closed."

A few months ago my daughter decided to put a small baby doll blanket into the piggy bank, along with the coins and some other items. Ever since the toy was overfilled, the door occasionally has had trouble staying closed. Of course kids are going to fill this toy with other items besides coins, so it'd be hard to prevent this from happening. The toy works pretty well considering what's been done.

This piggy bank is very cute, and it's fun to be able to play with a piggy bank instead of just look at it. My daughter also has a real piggy bank that sits in her room. Of course it's only used as a bank, so I'm glad she has this toy one to play with.
