What happens when an Orc Hunter falls in love with an Undead Warlock?No, this isn't an ugly baby joke. It's a true story about a young couple that met and fell in love through World of Warcarft. Lee-Ann* and T.B.* met in the MMORPG (massive-multiplayer online role playing game) World of Warcraft. A friendship formed right away that grew over time, eventually resulting in the couple meeting in person and forming a romantic relationship. Two years later, Lee-Ann and T.B. are engaged and setting a wedding date for next year. They have even started a family together.
Other Cases of WoW Relationships
This sweet story may inspire single gaming geeks out there but it's not a lone case. Many of us have also heard the story, Druid and Hunter to Man and Wife on the European World of Warcraft servers. This man and woman met through the power of an MMORPG and later became married in real life. Blizzard featured their story on the official WoW website for some time and it made some good publicity for World of Warcraft. When this story was publicized, many others came forward that they had also met someone through World of Warcarft or that they know of someone who had.
I personally have met people in game that met through the game and started dating and if you search World of Warcraft forums and message boards, you find many other cases as well. So while it may still seem a bit shocking to mainstream society, I don't think gamers are all that astonished. World of Warcraft is also not the first MMORPG to have this sort of history. Couples have met through other games such as EverQuest, for example.
What Critics Are Saying
When stories like these are publicized, there are those that criticize it and said how could two people possibly know enough about one another from a video game to actually get married? Others scoff and say it is a marketing ploy to gain attention for the game and still others mock the couple and others like them claiming that they must be "losers" or "geeks" to get married to someone they met in a game. But when you really look at it, is it that shocking and unusual?

My boyfriend and I met on WoW as well! All of our friends call it a fairy tale. I lived in Rhode Island, he lived in California. We met August 2008, developed a solid friendship that turned into a relationship April 2009, and he paid for me to come out for a week visit in June 2009. I NEVER LEFT! We have lived together since the first day we met face to face. We have happily been together for 9 months now and have never been happier. He said "I love you" for the first time as a Christmas present and I balled my eyes out. Thank God for vent, camera's, and texting!!! It DOES happen.

My fiance and I met on WoW over 3 years ago. When we first started, we was in the same guild. We became playing buddies and quested together. With in game voice chat, we started talking while playing everyday. Over time we formed a good solid friendship. We were real with each other (as appearance was not there to tempt us to try and impress each other) Niether one of us DREAMED of having a relationship long distance and especially thru a game. After about a year, we exchanged phone numbers and started talking on the phone ALL the time. One time I looked at my monthly phone bill and saw we was spending an average of 8-10 hours on the phone a day. We decided to meet (using safetly measures of course) and the relationship became more. We have been engaged for a year now and have taken turns making the trips between Alabama and Texas to see each other. I want to know how meeting on WoW is any different than internet dating websites. Srsly. As long as you get to know the person and don't just uproot your life to be with them, I don't see what is so wrong about it.

I met my current Boyfriend on WoW, after a year of talking and what not, really getting to know each other for who we are. We have decided to give things a shot. The only difficult part is that I live in BC Canada and he is a paratrooper in the US Army, he was deployed just after we expressed how we did feel about each other.
I can't wait to see him when he is on his 2 weeks leave.

Well everyone's right, I've had so many friends who've had failed relationships because of WoW, others who just irritate their spouse because they both play WoW and share an account (those poor people :P), and I myself have met the woman of my dreams on WoW three and a half years ago. Internet security HAS to be taken into account if you ever meet them IRL, but we're happier together than we've ever been in any other relationship.

but isn't the fact this is a digital online game alot is alot different to actually being able to feel somones touch a big difference from the real world and the internet? i find it worrying that people are in relationships with people they have never met. you can truly get to know someones personality, but i still don't think you'd know the real them. soon we will be anti socials with no life other than one on the internet. im 15 years old and i even find this use of the internet disturbing.

I met my boyfriend on warcraft as well =) Two years together near Christmas, not much compared to the engaged folks but we're getting there! We're young, but Lord knows we'd be married in a heartbeat if we could. He lives in Hawaii and I live in Washington DC, and I'm very proud of how we make it work and our story. Warcraft is a good game to meet people because you HAVE to work together in order to proceed in many cases. All it takes is honesty and trust and anyone can make it work.

I wish that my story was the same as most people on here... Just short of a year ago I met a wonderful woman on WoW. we became good friends (some flirting at the start) and then she told me she had a boyfriend and that she's been in that relationship two years. I were devastated at that fact but kept on.... Since then we've exchanged photos, moved on to voice chat and now we're on webcam with each other, we were planned to meet in December of this year (08) but now she thinks that may be too soon.
She's told me that she DOES have feelings for me but she just isn't sure to what extent they go, I know for a fact that her feelings can't grow because we haven't even met yet :S. Now I know that I shouldn't be talking with someone who already has a boyfriend but they're having difficulties and they were before I came along, but apparently I've made things between them considerably worse...

I met someone on WoW about 3 years ago and became friends with him. He lived in Alabama and I lived in Alberta. We met for the first time in Vegas in early 2007 and fell in love. He now lives in WA and I live in BC and we see each other every weekend and both can't wait for the day when we're married and both living on the same side of the line!
Meeting someone online and meeting someone "IRL" is the same thing as long as you're both honest and have good intentions. I know tonnes of people that date "normally" and I sure can't say the same thing about the honesty part. So to all those that criticize the idea of meeting someone on an MMORPG, the day's of closed mindedness are over! Don't discount love in the World... of Warcraft!
I wish that was my story, unfortunately mine is the other way around, met boyfriend and introduced him to WoW and I had to get a new account for me to be able to play... I created a monster! ;)
