Waiting until the last minute to start packing might seem like the best option but in most cases its not. It only makes you panic and stressed out because you have so much to do in so little time. This causes us to take a lot of unnecessary junk to our new house when they should have been left behind. Don't wait; Instead start packing a few weeks to even months ahead of time and you'll find yourself in a much more relaxed, organized and stress free situation.

Tip#1
If you know someone who works in a fast food restaurant, supermarket or retail store, ask them if they can do you the favor of putting some boxes aside. If not, go around to the local stores and ask the owners or managers if they have any boxes that you can have. You will be surprised but many stores get large shipments that come in boxes that have to be broken apart and taken out to the dumpster. Most stores are more than happy to help you out. While there you can also ask about bubble wrap and other packing materials that may have come with the boxes.

Tip#2
If you buy newspapers or get them delivered, you should get a box and save them to use later. Or you could ask friends, family and even neighbors if they can hold the newspapers for you instead of tossing them in the garbage or recycling bin. Some people in office jobs get a lot of paper that they might be able to get for you, so it never hurts to ask.

Tip#3
Prepare a space, area or bedroom to put your boxes and furniture in. A bedroom that is not in use can make a great short term storage space and so can the garage. If those two do not work for you, you can try the living room. Move the sofas to one side of the room and create a space for the items you plan to move with.

Tip #4
Go through your many stacks of paper and shred all of the important papers that you do not need to keep anyone from finding and accessing sensitive data. You can then use the shredded paper as extra packaging for dishes and glass ornaments to prevent them hitting against each other and chipping or cracking.
