Reducing job stress will help improve work production, quality of work, general health and avoid job burn out. Job stress plays a significant role in tension not only at work but also at home. Reducing job stress can provide a more relaxed environment both at home and on the job. Below are ten useful tips to reduce job stress:[1] Job stress is increased when an individual is hungry. The night before work, pack a few healthy snacks that are high in protein to snack on while at work. During the day, take short breaks on the job and eat a small snack. Not only will concentration increase and remain constant throughout the day, but job stress will decrease. Suggested foods for snacking are trail mix, peanuts, half a peanut butter sandwich, oranges, apples, bananas and cheese crackers.
[2] Job stress is increased if the individual is dehydrated. Most companies will not allow drinks at work stations that have computers. Each hour, get up from the work station and take a quick break from the job to grab a drink at the water fountain. If the job allows, keep a covered drink at the work station to sip on throughout the day. Suggested drinks are water, fruit flavored water, diet soda or unsweetened tea. Being able to focus and concentrate on tasks while on the job is much easier if one is well hydrated throughout the day.
[3] Delegation of work load can greatly reduce job stress. Ask assistance from co-workers on projects and delegate job responsibilities to enable tasks are completed not only faster but more efficiently. Utilize the strengths of job peers to decide which task to delegate. Even though one might be a leader and have tons of knowledge, being able to delegate job tasks is imperative to balancing work loads to alleviate high stress levels on the job. Careers are based on being able to fully utilize resources. One will not be viewed negatively if the delegation of tasks is fair and based on peer abilities.
