Is Nancy Grace Cashing in on Missing Kids?
Having followed Nancy Grace since her days on now-defunct Court TV, I have come to a conclusion. Nancy Grace is a sensationalistic, ratings-hungry predator. Her victims? All of us, and especially the families of the children she claims to be "helping". Her current hour-long, twice-nightly time slot on CNN proves my case to any who are paying attention.
For months now, she has followed the Caylee Anthony case with gusto, rarely breaking away from this not-so "breaking news" to discuss anything else. She has focused solely on this case, switching up only recently when another young, white girl from Florida went missing.
Little Haleigh Cummings, missing since February 10th out of Satsuma County, Florida, has broken the spell. And rightly so, because this is still, for the moment, news. There is still, in my opinion, reason to have this little girl's face on the news every night. There is still hope that this child may be found alive, though this hope is bolstered by little more than the fact that evidence to the contrary has yet to be discovered. Nonetheless, it is new, hence it should be in the news.
Caylee Antony was not being "helped" by all the coverage she garnered months and months after her disappearance, and certainly not by being featured every single night, even after we all knew the horrible outcome. It is news when it happens, it is news when there are worthy updates available, and it will be news when the mother of that poor child goes to trial. Rehashing details we already know for months on end helps no one but Nancy Grace, and takes time and resources away from children who should be getting this type of coverage. Children in crisis now, children missing now, children suffering now.
Back to the point at hand, I am not sure how many children exactly went missing in the United States in the last 12 months. However, I will say that I am positive that I have not seen more than a quick profile on ANY of them, with the exception of little Caylee, on the Nancy Grace show.
