Are you a smoker? Have you ever or are you trying to quit? You cannot do it alone you will need some help. Those who have tried to quit or are trying to quit have experienced physical and emotional symptoms that make it very difficult to quit.

Cigarettes are not only very bad for your health they are a nicotine delivery device. In essence a cigarettes primary purpose is to deliver nicotine into your bloodstream. Its no wonder that people find it easier to quit other habits than to stop smoking. One man found it easier to quit his drug habit than to quit smoking.

The physical symptoms that a smoker would experience trying to quit:

An intense craving for nicotine.

Tension

Irritability

Headaches

Difficulty in concentrating

Drowsiness and trouble sleeping

Increased appetite and weight gainIts no wonder with those physical symptoms that smokers find it increasingly difficult to quit smoking. The emotional symptoms are the product of the physical. Those who have tried to quit have made others around them miserable. The stress of trying to quit smoking has made many go back to smoking than fight the hardship of trying to quit.

How about the cost of smoking and the effect it has on your pocketbook. Over 22 billion packs sold in the US each year. With health costs $157 billion in health related costs. This was as of 1999 and 8 years have gone by since than. Medical costs add another $7.18 to each taxpayers medical costs as per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The average cost of a pack of cigarettes today is $4.00 to $7.00 per pack. Smoking two packs per day at $4 per pack would cost you $2920 per year.

My wife smokes a brand that costs $5.03 per pack and she smokes 2 packs per day so we are spending $3672 per year. She has tried to quit but gives up after one day. This is story is repeated for many smokers who have tried to quit many times.

My husband quit smoking yesterday. He is usually a very laid person, uitting has turned him into a very mean person. He came home from work yesterday and just laid on the couch(he never does that, never). Hardly spoke to our daughter, when I mentioned that he jumped all over me,accusing me of calling him a bad father. This morning he tried to pick a fight with me,and left for work without saying a word.

I'm taking Chantix, it is working great. On the third week of pills second week not smoking. My doctor said I can stay on it for up to 6 months. Don't think I'll need it that long maybe another nmonth or so. Oh yeah, and hey T.H what a "nice" comment since I'm sure what someone trying to quit needs to hear is your sarcasm. Not very supportive, what a DORK.

I have used the new drug, chantix. It has helped allot. Took it for only a couple of weeks while I tapered off and have had no cigarettes and no meds for 10 days now. Lots of withdrawal symptoms though. Difficulty getting to sleep and staying asleep yet very tired during the day. Weakness in arms and legs along with tingling in hands and feet. Very heavy feeling in my arms an legs as well. Tightness in chest and dizziness has been bad for the last week. Doc says it will get better over the next couple of weeks so here is hoping. Cant wait to start feeling better. Best of luck to all!

No-you can do it alone! I did. It's called will-power if you've never heard of it.
