According to a study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, people who nap are less likely to have heart disease than people who do not take naps. The report, funded by the European Commission and Greek government, studied more than 23,000 people over the course of six years in Greece. The results of the study found that people who took 30-minute naps were 37 percent less likely to die of heart disease. People in this group took 30-minute naps at least three times each week. Those who took naps occassionally (less than 3 times each week) were 12 percent less likely to die of heart disease.
Although the researchers of the study could not draw any correlation to why the naps may have reduced the chance of heart disease, many think it would be safe to say that napping in many ways reduces stress built up throughout the day. In fact, those who study kinesiology are inclined to say that many of the diseases people suffer from today, are the result of a stressful world and stressful lives. Whether or not you believe that theory or believe in karma or spiratuality, no one can deny that stress has become a common, accepted fact of life.
This is why the results of this study come at a very important time when napping may be a good idea to reduce stress and increase your ability to get all the things you want done in life, actually done.
More naps have always been something a growing a number of people have said are necessary for good health and less stress. There are even some employers who allow their employees to nap while on the job.
While you may not be lucky enough to work for one of those companies, it does not mean that you should sell yourself short on taking a nap every now and then. It may seem difficult to see, but there actually is time in your busy routine to fit in 30 minutes for yourself.
