Coming from a larger family hosting important events, there are many things to consider when planning a party. Not only do you have to worry about entertainment, seating, cleaning, and themes, but you also have to worry about the food and drink preperation. Many party throwers consider the menu to be very time consuming and often the most important aspect of a party. True, food and drink, is very important, but can be made less stressful with some simple foods, creativity, and brilliant ideas. My first tip is to pre-make your foods. To throw an eventful evening, you don't always need to include four-course meals. You can instead develop a menu of several fulfilling appetizers to serve at your event. People actually enjoy appetizers because it gives them a larger selection to choose from and are as fulfilling and less formal than actual sit down dinners. By preparing your ingredients the night before your party, you are less stressed the day of the event and can concentrate on the other tasks involved. With only having to pop an appetizer in the oven, it can provide several hours of free time before the actual event.
Sometimes the hostess wants to impress their guests with extravagant appetizers. I say, stick with what you know and think about the kinds of foods you enjoy when attending other's events. If you think you would have to ask the question, "what is it?", then don't serve it. People, in general, are simple when it comes to foods. In other words, don't be afraid to serve mini hotdogs or sausages, but instead, figure out how you can make them look delicious.
