If you asked anyone in 1997 who Leonardo DiCaprio was, they enthusiastically answer, "Why, he played Jack Dawson in Titanic, of course!" Anyone who had a pair of eyes in the '90s saw Leonardo's face plastered on anything and everything after the blockbuster hit, Titanic hit the big screen causing teenage girls to "ooh and ahh" over the heartthrob. Now that Leonardo is older and has begun the successful journey of establishing himself as an adult leading man, he is more eager to create an acting resume full of achievements and it turns out that adorning the cover of Tiger Beat just does not cut it anymore.

Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio was born on November 11, 1974 to an Irish-American father and German-American mother. Leonardo received his unique name when he kicked inside of his mother's belly while his mother was looking at a Leonardo DaVinci painting. Taking that as a sign, she named her son Leonardo and took the middle name, Wilhelm, from a German relative. The name, Leonardo DiCaprio, is so recognizable and synonomous with success. It's hard to imagined that he was urged to change it to Lenny Williams so it sounded more American. Needless to say, Leonardo DiCaprio thrust himself into Hollywood with his "foreign" name anyhow.

Leonardo's parents divorced when he was only a year old. They were still very friendly with one another and were always a part of Leonardo's life. Leonardo's father was heavily involved in the comic book world and had a lively lifestyle with Leonardo accompanying him along the way. It is noted that Leonardo's stage fright, if he had any, was done away with at a young age because he was always amongst large numbers of people and would sometimes put on tap-dancing shows to entertain the crowds. His first television job found him on his favorite show at the time, Romper Room. Encouraged by his parents to do whatever he wanted to do, Leonardo took up an interest in acting.

Leonardo DiCaprio is our generation's most versatile actor.
