I know, many women are intrigued by the title of this article and many men are probably irate at the thought of being a victim of theft. From my own experiences, I guess I would consider myself a thief towards my husband, but a good one for good reasons. In today's society, especially for families with children, expenses can be overwhelming and living paycheck to paycheck becomes as normal as getting dressed in the morning. Saving accounts are a great way to put away a little extra cash, but often are drained, quickly, because we "know" that we have that little extra money to spend. In my household, I witnessed the drainage on several occasions. For example: Daddy needs a new playstation, but doesn't have the money to buy it. Oh, nevermind, I forgot we have that extra money in the savings account. As quickly as daddy walks out of Best Buy with a new system, is as quickly as your back to searching through your couch cushions for extra change to buy a candy bar at a local dollar store. Pretty pathetic, right, that minutes ago you could you could by a $600 video game system and now you can't even buy a value pack of Hershey Bars.

How many times have you heard "the more money you make, the more you spend"? This indeed is true, and, if we did not spend our "extras" we all would eventually have enough money to cruise around in a brand new BMW, with all perks included. I like to look at myself as a thrifty person who likes to get ahead and be prepared for future costs. Unfortunately, my husband has the mentality that money is meant to be spent and that living paycheck to paycheck is just the American way of life. Thanks to my Grandmother, and the tricks she taught to my mother, I have been able to successfully "steal" from my husband and save a nice chunk of change for future events.

Takeaways
  • Being a wife thief is an honorable crime
  • Ways to save money, worry free
  • Once the crime is solved, charges are dropped and rewards are given
Did You Know?
Believe me when I tell you that your husband will appreciate the fact that you are in fact a criminal!

I had to come back and comment. For about the past year, I was able to save close to $3000! Hubby kind of expects it now...but it kind of has become a game...that he pretends he doesn't know....and acts excited when I give him our grand total!

I loved this article and I am going to start doing it so we can save some money for a hard earned vacation. Our problem is that when we have extra money, we do spend it. So if we use your idea about putting in a bank that must be broken, it will help out. Thanks for the great idea!

Very cute idea--also very smart! What a great way to stay out of debt and still enjoy the family vacations and other luxuries. Thanks for sharing.

In a way, I can see the goodness behind this idea, but in another way, financial matters tear a household apart faster than anything. I think a couple should be honest about where money is going.

I must add that, despite my comment/idea below, he is a MUCH better saver than I.

I have an investment account where $50 a month goes in. I talked about it with him, but he said we didn't have the extra money to invest. I did it anway.

Very creative. Since I do the laundry, the rule in my house is that if I find money in pockets, I get to keep it.

Great advice. We are still struggling to just cover our bills, and I have jars for the children I stash change in... but once we get ahead I plan on hiding $5 weekly for this same reason. Men really are bad about spending every possible dollar, so it is necessary to be a 'wife-thief' to avoid the savings from being raided.
