Season three of ABC's hit show Grey's Anatomy got off to a relatively slow start. It seemed that the action in this season would pale in comparison to last season's bomb scare, where the show's namesake Meredith Grey narrowly escaped being blown to smithereens. And how could we forget the Izzy-Alex-Denny Duquette drama that kept GA viewers on the ends of their seats right up until the shocking and highly emotional departure of our beloved, not to mention strikingly handsome, Denny.

When previews for the most recent two episodes and the next episode aired, the show promised to be unforgettable. And it has been just that. The past two episodes have been prefaced by eight million dollars worth of grief and self reflection, a whirlwind of unlikely and unpredicted romantic overtures, the wedding of an unlikely and highly volatile pair, and an engagement that blind sided GA viewers.

Despite the shock value of the above, nothing compares to last week's episode where Dr. Meredith Grey was tossed into the river after coming to the aid of a frantically pained patient who was a victim of the fatal ferry boat crash that tested the will, strength, and skill of our five favorite interns.

The first of the three part story line left us hoping that someone nearby would rescue Mer before it was too late. And we knew that they would. After all, she is Meredith Grey, and the show is Grey's Anatomy. Somehow, Yang's Anatomy or O'Malley's Anatomy just doesn't have the same flair.

But the show's writers have taken us to another level. In the second part of the story line, after narrator Meredith told us that she has more to say, she succumbed to the cold Seattle water, declaring that she had disappeared. The love of Mer's life and attending neurosurgeon at Seattle Grace Hospital, Derek Shepherd, was eventually led to the sight of Mer's disappearance, where he dived in, and carried Mer out of the water like a true hero.
