Are you unsure about the pursuit of a foreign language? Here are 6 great reasons to begin learning a new language today.1. It will help the student appreciate English in a more profound way.
When studying a language such as Spanish, Italian, or French, you will gradually develop a greater understanding of your native language, which is English for many people reading this article. As you once again learn various verb tenses, vocabulary, sentence structure, and more, you will naturally compare each lesson to the experience of learning your first language. In most cases, it will make the grammar of your first language easier to understand and fully comprehend. You should develop a better appreciation for what once appeared to be arbitrary rules.
2. Learning another language will open the doors to a whole new world of literature.
While you might enjoy translations of works in other languages, but anyone who has studied literature in another language will tell you that it isn't the same as reading a work in its original language. Learning and studying another language will eventually allow you the pleasure of reading a whole new set of literary work. Let's face it; only the classics end up getting translated into another language. If you can't read the language, you have a whole world closed to you. There are wonderful literary works from Latin America and Spain that the English-speaking world has not yet enjoyed. That is but one example. If you love to read and literature itself, you owe it to yourself to learn another language.
3. Studying another language will allow for additional educational opportunities.
At the college and university level, there are several opportunities for studying abroad if you are studying another language. While knowing the native language isn't always a prerequisite for a study abroad experience, it makes things much easier if you do know the language. In addition, some programs are only open to students demonstrating a certain level of knowledge of the native language. Studying another language opens a lot of doors for additional educational opportunities.
