When mornings get hectic, it is time to get organized!

One of the easiest ways to simplify your morning routine is to begin organizing your closet. A few easy steps will make this job simple and easy. When you first open the door to your closet, do items practically fall off the shelf at you? Are your clothes hanging willy nilly across the rack? Is it hard to find your accessories when you need them?

Grab a couple of boxes or bags and head to the danger zone you call a closet. Begin your organization project by discarding the items you never use. Begin at the top of your closet and work your way to the bottom. If you have not used the item in the past year, odds are that you don't need it. If the item is still in great condition, donate it to a local charitable organization. By donating your items you will save time in the morning and money on your taxes.

Now that you have only the items you use, separate the items by season. If you are searching for that dainty pink blouse, there is no need to dig through your sweaters to find it.

Organize your clothing based on the type of apparel. Place all of your casual clothes to the left side of the closet. Your dress clothes should hang nicely on the right. This will help to ensure that you find what you are looking for quickly and easily. The Florida T-shirt will no longer be next to your black strappy dress from New Year's Eve.

Don't stop now. The shelves need to be organized, too. If you have old photos and mementos you store in the closet, place them on the highest shelf. They will be right there when you are ready for them. On the lower shelves place items like folded sweatsuits and sweaters or a labeled box of swimwear, depending on the season. Items you use everyday are simpler to find when they are hung up on hangers, but for those items you use less frequently, the lowest shelf may be a perfect place for them.

Takeaways
  • Separate items by season.
  • Place matching outfits together.
  • Organize your accessories.
