Sony started the UMD Legacy program for their PSP Playstation Store in fall of 2007. This program composes of PSP titles that were first released at retail via UMD discs. These games are then converted into
downloadable data that can be stored and played on the PSP Memory Stick Pro Duo. The main advantage for UMD Legacy titles compared to regular UMD PSP games is that the former usually sport faster loading times. So without further adieu, here are the top five UMD Legacy games for the PSP so far.
5. Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins
Publisher: Capcom, Developer: Capcom, Release Date: January 15, 2009, ESRB Rating: E 10+
The Ghosts 'n Goblins series is known for their high difficulty. Even with the frustration, the games always deliver a fulfilling experience. Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins brings the classic series into the modern era with 3D graphics. Old school fans should be happy to learn that in spite of the new visual style, the trademarked gameplay remains intact. With a mix of old and new, Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins is a first-rate UMD Legacy title on the PSP.
4. Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure
Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment, Developer: Sony Bend, Release Date: June 19, 2008, ESRB Rating: E 10+
Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure is the perfect title for UMD Legacy. This excellent but severely overlooked PSP game is an action-RPG title with intense battles and high-flying platforming action. With the addition of charming story and a big world to explore, Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure may be the best PSP game no one has played. Thanks to the UMD Legacy program, however, PSP gamers are getting a second chance to buy and play this overlooked title.
3. Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords
Publisher: D3 Publisher, Developer: Vicious Cycle Software, Release Date: September 25, 2008, ESRB Rating: M
